Community Health: SEARCH Program

What is the SEARCH Program?

The goal of the Illinois SEARCH Program is to encourage health professions students and medical residents, especially those who are current participants in the National Health Service Corps and the Illinois Department of Public Health Scholarship program, to pursue health care practice in Illinois Community Health Centers (CHCs). The program provides a high quality, pre-clinical community-based clinical education experience for medical, physician assistant, and advanced practice nursing students as well as for primary care residents.

  Core curriculum elements include:

  • Clinical/Preclinical Rotation
  • SEARCH Orientation
  • Community Assessment
  • Cultural Assessment

SEARCH is a collaborative project between the Illinois Primary Health Care Association (IPHCA) and the Western Illinois AHEC Program.  For more information, contact Leola Mitchell , Student Coordinator or Ruth Arway, SEARCH Site Coordinator: 312-692-3030.
